This June we headed up the north shore for a cabin getaway. Grey Duck cabin is tucked away on the great north shore with 40 private acres on the Manitou river. Noted for those wanted a modern escape in the deep woods to reconnect with nature. https://www.greyduckcabin.com
Grey Duck cabin is truly that. Hidden in the woods you would expect to find an old shack style cabin but when you pull in you first see the solar panels already noting the modern environmentally friendly location. Drive a tad further and you come to the modern grey cabin with cedar siding nestled in the woods. Just jumping out of our car we were greeting by tons of butterflies.
Upon entering the cabin you walk into a gorgeous modernly designed kitchen (albeit missing a microwave and dishwasher), and massive windows in the living room overlooking the woods. A small iron fireplace sits in the corner for those chilly nights. To your left when entering there are 2 bedrooms. one with 2 twin beds and another with a king bed and its own walk out. Walk through the cabin to the other side to a gorgeous 3 season porch with Edison lights once night rolls in. Outside there is a paved patio, fire pit, and trail down to the river/creek.
Even though the cabin is secluded we had plenty to do. They have wifi, Nintendo, movies, games, and we had a great time playing tiki toss in the sunroom. Mornings we made big breakfast and drank our coffee in the sunroom. The bathroom was lovely with a large shower including a removable showered and raining shower head.
Some things I would suggest bringing before visiting. Ladies all they have is shampoo/conditioner combo and for this long haired lady I need real conditioner. There is no food or beverage provided at this rental, so if you plan to cook or drink coffee you must bring all your food, beverages, and condiments. Also a reminder no microwave so don’t bother with microwave popcorn. Also the town of Finland does not have a grocery store. Pack a cooler and shop in Two Harbors or Silver Bay.
The cabin is also located near many fun attractions. Tettagouche State Park is a short drive..we choose to hike to the High Falls of Baptism River, we also visited Palisades Head(however proceed with caution, not the safest place), if you don’t mind a drive an hour north is the quaint coastal vibe town of Grand Marais. If you are traveling with kids their is an adventure park in Beaver Bay. Come winter Lutsen ski area is very close and their are many snow mobile trails. We lucked out driving up in June as the lupines were in full bloom. I would absolutely visit this cabin again. it was cozy and a lot of fun.
