Minimalist decor

I will be honest I have avoided the minimalist trend because I find it cold and anything, but comfortable. However, I do enjoy looking at it and I can appreciate the art in minimalism. With that said recently I was looking around my home and I felt like some corners and shelves needed something that made people go hmm I haven’t seen that before and it makes me stop to look at it. In short I wanted some parts of my home to feel like art. When it comes to furniture and the majority of my house comfort still rules. I want everyone who visits to feel relaxed and for my children to cozy into a soft couch. That will not be changing, but a shelf or some minimalist table decor has added an element to talk about. When I added my minimalistic touch I included some warm colors with the terra cotta piece of pottery. This tiny bit of warmth to me add a comfort that I often don’t feel in minimalism. Another thing I like to do as you will see with the shelves is play with placement. Juxtaposition is really fun to play with and not laying our shelves out perfectly can actually make more of a statement. I hope this helps give you some fresh ideas on minimalism for those of you wanting to add it to your home, but not sure where to start as I was.

Minimalist pottery on a bench. I added just one piece of dried stems and to me it creates a bold statement.

An example of playing with shapes and juxtaposition as you can see it isn’t all perfectly balanced. I played with layout with the two white pottery pieces by putting them in front of the books.
