Essential Oils to Reduce Cold/Flu Symptoms with Marian of @Marianelizabeth

‘Tis the season for colds and flu! The temperatures are dropping and everyone is cooped up inside creating the perfect breeding ground for the flu and cold bugs.

A few years ago, I was horribly sick with a cold and sniffling all day at work. After a long day of annoying my co-worker, she finally put a drop or two of Thieves oil in my coffee and the yummy warm cinnamon scent cleared me right up. Until that point, I was a skeptic about oils, but this experience made me a believer. I have done some research myself on the best oils to use for cold and flu season with the top 7 being #1 Thieves, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lemon, Oregano, Lavender, and Rosemary.

I honestly only buy products I believe in. I personally don’t care about the brands if its a high quality product. Thieves is my go to and my families go to for colds as it works wonders I combating chest and nasal congestion sore throats, and fevers. The blend of oils in it are lemon, eucalyptus, cinnamon, clove, and rosemary leading it to be a powerful anti-bacterial and anti-viral.

However since I am a novice on oils I also wanted to talk with my friend Marian from @Marianelizabeth who has a knack for natural health via oils specifically. As a young mom to 3 young boys she is all to familiar with germs and germ prevention. Given the season is upon us of fall but also flu and cold season we discuss what specifically to look for in oils and also how to have your home smelling the best this fall season.

Let’s proceed with the interview:

Rana Monet: Welcome Marian I am a huge fan of your feed and am grateful I have had the chance to meet you and get to know you via social media. In addition to your expertise on oils, I love your passion for family, being closely grounded with nature, and your overall style. I am wondering what oils do you use most often in fall and why?

Marian: Thank you, for immune support I use Thieves. My go to oils to use in my diffuser for a fall scent are cinnamon, orange, clove, Northern Lights, black spruce, nutmeg, pine, and Christmas Spirit.

Rana Monet: I bet your home just smells wonderful this season. With cold and flu season approaching, what oils do you recommend to prevent or curb symptoms once ill?

Marian: We have 3 little boys which equals a lot of germs coming into my house. Ha! I definitely use Thieves for immune support. We roll it on and diffuse it throughout the day as well as clean the house with it.

My favorite roller for Josh, my husband, and I is the Thieves roller from Young Living. For the boys we use a Thieves blend which includes 5 drops of Thieves, 5 drops of frankincense and 1 drop Oregano in a 10ml roller bottle. We then fill the rest with fractionated coconut oil, but you can use the oil of your choosing. I roll it on us and the boys before school and before bed to keep our immune system supported. The boys love it so much they even roll it on themselves now and feel empowered doing so.

Now if we do come down with something, I immediately diffuse lemon, RC, and our Thieves blend down the spine and bottoms of the feet throughout the day. I also love RC rolled on the chest for anything respiratory.

Rana Monet: Do you have a preferred method of application? For example: diffusing, direct skin contact, or oral?

Marian: We love them all! Inhaling oils is the quickest way to get them into your system. We mostly diffuse and apply to our skin. Josh and I use oils orally in veggie capsules if something arises, and it’s needed.

Rana Monet: If someone is taking oils, is there something they should watch out for or be aware of?

Marian: To dilute any “hot” oil such as cinnamon before putting them in contact with the skin.

Rana Monet: Yes I have made this error before. Ended up with some minor skin irritation. Lesson learned. With oils on the rise and being sold in so many different markets now, what should be watching for when buying oils?

Marian: Honestly anything that is too cheap. It may sound crazy, but there is a reason why it’s expensive. It takes 10,000 roses to fill a single 5ml bottle (about the size of a thumb!) Therefore in the oil market buying cheaper isn’t better. Oils sold too cheap can either be synthetic, have added chemicals for fillers or the farming practices aren’t pure.

Only the best for Marian and her family

Young Living offers seed to seal guarantee. Therefore, from the seed to the sealing process, its a system that makes sure each and every drop is the purest on the planet.

Rana Monet: Thank you so much for joining me Marian. You are always such a pleasure to talk with. In conclusion, to curb the impacts of the flu season, check into Thieves by Young Living (I personally have had tremendous results from it), warm your home with fall scents like cinnamon, nutmeg, spruce, and remember to evaluate the quality of your oils before purchasing.
