Being a Woman is Tough Work

I have to admit as I get older…yes I am 42. I have come to learn that being a woman can be tough work. I am not sure if it started when women entered the workforce or fought for equal rights, but now we women are doing it all. We are the raising the kids, bringing in income, cooking, cleaning, carpooling…phew! Oh and have I mentioned the never ending amount of laundry us moms are doing.

We also seem to constantly have incoming pressures on looking youthful and slim. When I was younger we were only confronted with the youth obsessed culture in magazines. Now thanks to social media we are bombarded with anti-aging potions, diets, and quick fixes galore.

We as women are meant to be independent, sexy, and calm under pressure or we are quickly toted as “crazy.” I am all for women going after their dreams. I am all for women getting equal pay as men. However, I also think with that has to come more domestic duties for men. To me that is equalizing not women just adding more and more on their plates. Now don’t get me wrong some men are so good at this. They see their women working hard and they pitch in. However, in my conversations with friends more often than not women are taking on more and more.

So I wonder when enough will be enough. When will we start seeing the tide of equality turn more and seeing more domesticated males. Men who come home from work and have dinner planned and start cooking because guess what his wife worked just as hard today at her job. I am fortunate that my partner is cognizant of this. However, we all like to relax and be catered too and even he can fall short at times and needs a friendly nudge from yours truly.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below. However, I want to remind all you women whether young, mothers, seniors that you are gorgeous just as you are and you are truly an amazing being because not only have we stepped up, but we did it with periods. I think that alone deserves recognition.
